Our History

Most all boys have a love affair with cars that begins as a youngster and sometimes never ends. This is particularly strong in the Detroit, Michigan area, where the cars were made and the economy and lives of the people revolve around automobiles and related vehicles. King A. Koch grew up in that environment, so he became quite familiar with cars and what makes them run.

After graduating with a masters degree from Purdue University and working for Owens Corning and Texas Instruments, he decided to become his own boss. In 1959, King Koch founded Koch Engineering and Sales Company and began his adventures as a manufacturer’s representative. He was one of the early engineers and suppliers involved in the development of electrical switches, thermostatic controls and flow control devices used in the first air conditioning systems. Additionally, when the SAE (Society of Automotie Engineers) first became involved in mobile air conditioning standards, Mr. Koch was one of the first committee members.

In 1974 he founded a second company, Muenster Switch which manufactured specialty resistors, assisted in the design and development of new switches and soon became the exclusive stocking distributor of Indak products. These two companies merged in 2001 and the name was changed to Koch Sales Company, Inc. With the growth in the US and international markets, a new office and warehouse was built in 2007, providing the company a much larger location to centralize operations and warehousing.

Koch Sales Company, Inc. is proud to celebrate more than 50 years of exemplary customer service and worldwide product distribution to the automotive heating and air conditioning aftermarket industry. The products we supply can be found in a variety of heavy duty, specialty and off road vehicles such as construction machinery, tractors, buses, fire trucks, ambulances, military vehicles, motor homes, golf carts and lawn mowers. Mr. Koch was a pioneer in the automotive heating and air conditioning industry and the company remains a dominant force in the marketplace today.
